The Bestança river, one of the cleanest and most conserved of the Europe, rises high in the Montemuro mountain and runs about 12km, almost always in a straight line, until it flows into the Douro river, in the place of “Porto Antigo”. Its magnificent valley houses a remarkable biodiversity and a valuable cultural heritage that reveals the perfect harmony between Nature and the action of Man, over the centuries.

Through this visit we invite you to discover the valuable natural and cultural heritage of the Bestança valley, as well as the actions that are being developed with a view to its protection and safeguard. The journey begins with a visit to the Environmental Interpretation Center of the Bestança Valley, followed by a photographic safari through the valley, with an interpretation of biodiversity, geodiversity and built heritage, especially the mills, bridges, levadas (irrigation channels) and villages.
